This will only dictate which display VLC will open in by default. Its been happening on and off for ages, but its decided to go crazy tonight. If you don’t have your second, or third display connected, this option will not automatically list it. If you leave it at ‘Default’, it will open on your main display. On the opened box, from the left pane, make sure that the very first category is selected. (In any case, you can always press Ctrl+P buttons simultaneously on your keyboard to jump right to the Preference box regardless of the language that has been set for your VLC Player.). I don't know where VLC stores its log file. Open it and select the display you want to assign VLC player to. From the displayed list, click the last option available as this is the one that will take you to the Preferences box.

The permissions are "read and write" for all (root and others). VLC is unable to open the MRL 'file:///media/"username"/"harddisksdcname"/Videos/"videofoldername"/"videoname".avi'. VLC could not open the file "/media/"username"/"hardisksdcname"/Videos/"videofoldername"/"videoname".avi" (Permission denied). Different media files can be dragged to or opened Media > Open. To do this: Click the Start button and type system restore.

If Windows Media Player stopped working correctly after the latest update from Windows Update, you can verify that the update is the problem by using System Restore. Search for and click on the VLC menu item from the start menu and it will open a new one. When I try to open a video with VLC on that sdc drive I get this error: File reading failed: To open a second player window, we just have to click on any shortcut which is used to access the software. I have installed Ubuntu 16.10 on a 120GB hard disk (sda) and I have a secondary internal hard disk 500GB (sdc) which has nothing else but a folder with video files in it.
